How Do I Get My Dog to Like Training?

First and foremost, if you don't like training your dog, your dog is not going to like it, either. That being said, there are some tricks that can help make training more fun for you and your dog. One big way to do this is to find a training method that you both can become excited about. As Daniel explains:

"The key is that it shouldn't be forced fun. But, at the end of the day, no matter the age of the dog, they remain a 4-year-old human, at best. If you aren't using different tones of voice, inflection, motivation, and energy in your voice, you're not going to get the type of response you want from your dog."

Tips on Making Training More Enjoyable

The first step is to look at the many different dog training methods. If you are the type of person who says "my dog is stubborn" or "my dog has selective hearing," perhaps it's time to look at some new training methods.

One way to make the process more exciting is by rewarding your dog for its good behavior. Try using treats, toys, or petting them in a way that rewards the good behavior to encourage more of it.

Another way is by avoiding punishment. For example, never punish your dog for something they don't understand. if it seems like they're not catching on to your training session, take a break. Limiting training sessions to a few minutes several times a day is much more effective than pushing through until it's easier.

Finally, let your dog be a dog. If you're seeing that your training sessions aren't quite as exciting or fun-filled as you want them, try giving them the time to run around and play with toys! Not only will the positive vibes lift your spirits, but it will also lift your dog's spirits, as well. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy training with your dog. After all, it's a great way of bonding and spending time together!
